The Principal's Message

September 10, 2013

Dear Cherry Hill High School West School Community,

On behalf of the entire faculty and staff of Cherry Hill High School West, it is with great pride and enthusiasm that I extend this greeting to the entire High School West community. I would like to begin by personally extending my gratitude to all High School West parents for allowing us to take part in the lives of their children. We consider it a privilege and an honor to be given the opportunity to have a positive impact on the life of all of our students. As we usher in the class of 2017 I would like to extend my congratulations to the class of 2013.

The entire faculty and staff of High School West are dedicated to the success of each of our students as demonstrated through our commitment to excellence. We seek to immerse our students into the tradition of excellence that has been resident at High School West for almost 60 years.  High School West has a rich, distinct culture and history in being a place where all students are afforded with the opportunity to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally. We take great pride in meeting our collective vision, which is to prepare all of our students for post-secondary life by maintaining high expectations for achievement, for character, for community, and for personal responsibility.

High School West affords all students with the opportunity to experience a sense of belonging. We offer a wide array of academic course offerings, activities, clubs, and athletic sports teams. I strongly encourage every student to find an area of interest that they will pursue while here at High School West. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to serve as the Principal of Cherry Hill High School West, and I look forward to interacting and working with our school community. As one who seeks to continually improve in process and practice I ask for your support and feedback regarding our revised policies and progress. In closing, my advice to all students is to get involved during your time at High School West. I thank you in advance for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you around campus!

 Yours Truly,
Dr. Kwame R. Morton, Sr.

Principal

Dear High School West Educational Community,

Last night I was appointed by the Board of Education as the Director of Curriculum for the Cherry Hill School District, to begin on July 1, 2013.  This is an opportunity that I have embraced, for the same reasons that I chose to come to High School West; I believe in my heart that I can make a positive difference for our children and for our district.

Perhaps the most significant thing that has been confirmed for me during the past six and half years at West, is that our community is made up of passionate and involved families who are committed to one another, and most importantly to our children. I have been amazed and empowered by the support that our school has received from the community.  I have been humbled by the selflessness that so many have shown in giving of themselves to benefit our children. Although we have different life experiences, different backgrounds, different religions and ethnicities, we have come together as a family with High School West in the center of our activities.

My passion and my commitment to our school community have evolved and intensified during the more than thirty-five years that I have lived here.  When Ann and I were looking for homes before we were married, we chose to live in this community, because this is where we wanted to raise our family and where we wanted to send our children to school. Although I will no longer be working at West each day, my interest and my involvement in our educational community will not change or wane.  Ann and I will continue to have children at West for the next seven years.

I want to thank each of you for some of the most amazing and rewarding years of my life. I love being the principal at High School West.  I have been blessed to get to know so many of you, to become an extended part of your families.  I look forward to seeing you at events next year. As I have stated throughout my years at West, I have a vested interest in the continued growth and success of our school. Please continue to share your passion for quality education with our children and with the Cherry Hill community, as we continue to move into the future.

With warmth and fond memories,
Dr. Joseph N. Meloche
